SUBU is home to some of Bournemouth’s favourite places to hang out

Thes places are where we organise events for you, sell great food and drink and also make them available for you to hire for parties.

The Old Fire Station

Probably one of the best Students' Union venues in existence. It threw its doors open in 1995 after crafting 3 dance floors, 4 bars, a stage, 2 DJ booths and a multitude of nooks and crannies into the what was once Bournemouth's central fire station, along with England's longest fireman's pole. SUBU now proudly present a huge range of diverse events from this venue that includes cutting edge club nights, live music tours, massive student party nights and even stand up comedy. All of this is underpinned by the key principle that the profits we make are put back into the Students' Union to improve the student experience at BU.

The Old Fire Station has many options to hire out parts or all of it for parties, events and shows, see the form Hire Enquiry form below.

Friday Night is Lollipop

The longest running night in Bournemouth, dedicated purely to students and always a sell out. Feel free to bring down your friends from home, other unis and AUB to experience the legend that is Fridays at Lollipop. Three rooms of music from cool urban vibes to floor filling dance music bangers, VIP tables are available to be booked in advance and tickets can (and should) be bought in advance. The weekend has landed!

Thursday Nights are Applebum, Suddenly Funk
Tuesday Nights are Triple Cooked, Home Slice
Saturday Nights are: Foreverland, Enter, Block Party

Live Music Tours

SUBU work hard to bring live music events to the Old Fire Station. Live music tours in the venue are intimate, exciting and much more intense than other events we organise. Get to see tomorrows stars on their way up in an up close and personal venue. Previous bands that have stepped out onto The Old Fire Station stage include Ed Sheeran, The Blossoms, The Black Keys, Mark Ronson, Rita Ora, Wolf Alice and hundreds of others.

Stand Up Comedy: Comedy Nation

It’s a cracking night out, simple. Live comedy is usually raw, often rude and always side splittingly funny when seen in the flesh. The venue is transformed in a relaxed seated club to lure you into a false sense of security before the barrages of feeder line, punch line, twisted irony and heckles is unloaded on you. Graham Norton, Ross Noble and Harry Hill all stood up and faced the crowd here in their early days.

Dylan's Kitchen and Bar

This is Talbot Campus’s worst kept secret, an escape from campus academic life and brilliant in between lecture hang out. Open all day and all evening, including weekends. Hot food made to order in its own kitchen (pizzas and burgers especially good), fresh ground coffee and a great range of beer and lagers and prices you cannot beat.

Dylan's Kitchen & Bar has many options to hire out parts or all of it for parties, events, see the form Hire Enquiry form below.
