Register As A Volunteer

Get involved in volunteering. Do good. Feel good. Make your C.V. stand out!!!!

We work with a range of local and national charities, to help find students the right kind of volunteering opportunities, from one off volunteering days to weekly commitments - there is something for everyone, no matter how busy you are! Scroll through and when you see something you like press the green the button beneath the opportunity to 'apply' for the role (if you are not logged in to SUBU or registered as a volunteer the button will read 'you need to be logged in and registered' and will take you to the appropriate places to do so).

Lots of charities and not-for-profit organisations have been adding their opportunities to this page - just take a look below.  We are looking forward to helping our new and returning students to find some great volunteering projects to tuck in to for 2023/2024.

SUBU carefully check all charities, organisations and projects on the SUBU Volunteering Hub, to ensure that they are registered UK charities or not for profits, and that the volunteering roles being offered to BU Students will help them to gain skills to enhance their CV and employabilitys skills.  Our intention is to ensure that BU students have an enjoyable and beneficial volunteering experience and to ensure that they are not misused for intensive or unpaid labour.

The Student Opportunities Team are here to help you find volunteering opportunities.  You can book an appointment with someone from the Student Opportunities Team, and have a chat, to learn more about how this volunteering hub works. You can book an appointment at a time that suits you.  You can request the appointment to be face to face, or on Teams or Zoom.

You can also take part in our Student Volunteering Survey 2023 - 2024.  The survey is open for the entire academic year, and we'd like to hear from you whether you have had the chance to do volunteering or not.  You also have the option to take place in a prize draw which takes place at the end of each term, and you could win £25 Bournemouth Town Centre Shopping Vouchers.  Click here to take part in the Student Volunteering Survey.

You can also record your volunteering hours and skills you gained, on your  SUBU Volunteering Hub profile.  You can then download digital certificates and copies of your volunteering record which will really help your CV stand out!

If you are participating in the BU Graduate Skills Programme, your volunteering will count towards this award too!!!

Established in 2018, Hammersley Homes is a charity that provides support for life, for vulnerable adults who live with enduring mental health challenges and psychotic illnesses, and struggle with living independently.   Our aim is to establish a nationwide network of Day Centres, Outreach Services and Supported Housing schemes, to help with any daily tasks they may be struggling with, and relieve loneliness and isolation.   We focus upon increasing people’s quality of life and reaching their personal goals, whilst decreasing the likelihood of relapse into a mental health crisis that can lead to hospital stays or contact with the police.   Implementing ongoing support provides an opportunity to notice if there is any notable decline in the person’s health or wellbeing.    There is a growing scarcity of long-term support options for this vulnerable group.    Without the safety, security, and sense of community that long-term support provides, they are at risk of falling through the cracks and becoming hospitalised, homeless, or unfairly imprisoned.
