Weymouth Women got a huge boost in their aspirations of winning the Dorset Women’s League after narrowly defeating league leaders Poole Town Reserves 3-2. The Terras now sit one point behind with four games in hand on the Dolphins.

Weymouth would have also been pleased to learn that fellow title rivals Merely Cobham also slipped following their 3-1 loss to Dorchester Town. Dorchester already hold the distinction of being the only team to have beaten Weymouth but have handed them a helping hand with their victory on the weekend.

Poole Town were looking to halt Weymouth in their pursuit as they took a two-nil lead after only 20 minutes courtesy of club top scorer Jamie Blazer and Nikki Edward. However, Weymouth would get the game level before half-time thanks to a quick succession of goals in the 44th minute from Danielle Ackermann and then in added time from player-manager Tasha Sibley.

Weymouth carried the momentum straight into the second half and landed what would be the winning goal in the 47th minute as Becca De Haviland smashed home an exceptional strike from 30 yards out. Weymouth saw the game out to seal an important comeback in their quest for the title and promotion.

The third and last game of the weekend saw Shaftesbury Town demolish bottom placed Broadstone Ladies 13-0. Nikki Castle scored 6 goals whilst Poppy Failes also managed to get a brace as Shaftesbury Town got another massive win following their 6-3 shock win over Merley Cobham. Shaftesbury continue to pick up strong results as they continue their relegation fight and pick up form going into the latter stages of the season.
